Dermatology is the branch of medicine specialising in the diagnosis and
management of disorders affecting the skin, hair and nails.
The Department of
Dermatology at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) provides a full range of
clinical services for children with skin disorders, including outpatient and
inpatient care:
- General dermatology clinics cater for common skin disorders
- Specialised multidisciplinary clinics are provided for complex conditions,
such as epidermolysis bullosa and vascular anomalies
- The RCH Dermatology Laser Unit is a long-established global leader in
the laser management of birthmarks for children and maintains state of the art technology
to treat a wide range of conditions
The RCH Dermatology Department comprise a dedicated team of medical,
nursing, administrative and allied health professionals working together to
provide best practice dermatological care that meets the need of the patients
and their families. We work collaboratively with other departments within
the hospital to optimise and coordinate the care that we provide.
We are an
accredited training centre for dermatology registrars in the Australasian
College of Dermatologists training program and have a long history of hosting
international paediatric dermatology fellows and observers.
We are actively
involved in research into the causes and treatment of paediatric skin
disease and maintain collaborative relationships nationally and internationally.
Our
specialist Paediatric Dermatologists have published widely and are also involved
in advisory, advocacy, and educational roles outside of the hospital.
